Our sweet little Micah update...

Today was Micah's 3 year re-evaluation to see if he qualifies to continue with Special Education services.  Lot's of information came from the meeting.  Some good and some not so good.

At the beginning of this school year I was terrified for him to enter a regular Kindergarten class.  I was so used to him being in all Special Education.  He has done as best he could this year.  He is still very quiet, but he has made a couple friends and likes school for the most part.  He will pass Kindergarten this year. We are very excited for his progress.

After attending the meeting today we found out that he will no longer receive special education services.  This is the most wonderful & scary news that I have ever heard! lol.....while I am so happy for him, I hope that he has all the support that he needs.  First grade is hard, I mean, you gotta learn to read and stuff!!

Although Micah is progressing quite a bit, there was some hard information to hear today.  First off, he was given a test in which his final score was only one point away from falling into the Autism spectrum.  He has never tested that close before.  Secondly, he was found clinically significant on scales for: depression & a typicality.  Lastly, he was found at risk for: attention problems, withdrawal, social skills, leadership, study skills, and functional communication.

So, with all that said.  We like to focus on the positive!  Micah is awesome, he is doing awesome, he has awesome family and friends, 1st grade will be awesome....and you are awesome for taking the time to read this.  It means a lot to know our little Micah, "Beans" has support

3/18/14 Micah Update

Funny how I started a blog about myself titled, "Maybe I am different" and it ended up turning into Micah updates.  Whatever the case, I am very excited to share with you all his most recent update!

Today was his 3 year evaluation with the school board to see if he still qualifies to receive special education services.  Although they only determined that more testing is needed, I do have some wonderful news to share from the meeting:

1. Micah is on grade level.  With only minimal help to no help at all from the special education teacher and a little more time given to complete some tasks, he is going to pass Kindergarten!!

2. Micah is very advanced in math!!!  I can't tell you how much that makes me smile.  He has never excelled in anything.

3. He is making progress with his social interaction/anxiety.

Now some not so fun updates:

4. Micah has started stuttering real bad.

5. His eyesight is very bad and could get worse.  We have to keep one eye dilated continually.

6. His most recent diagnosis is: general anxiety disorder, fine motor delay, and language disorder.

Well, in conclusion let me just say how pleased I am with his progress.  He talks, he asks a million questions a day, he will speak to people if you tell him to (working on looking at them, lol), he has friends, he smiles and laughs, he is closing the developmental gaps and making good grades!  He is truly blowing our minds with his progress.  Thank you all for taking the time to care for him.  We love you!

Welcome.
